Cover Design Contest

Design Requirements

The cover should communicate intentional, future-oriented, sustainable digital design.

Please avoid clichéd sustainability symbols such as leaves, plants, green icons, or helping hands. A subtle, respectful visual link to Thailand is required—this may be expressed through patterns, shapes, colors, or architectural inspiration, but should not appear stereotypical.

The primary color of the design is #542082, and additional colors may be used harmoniously. Typography must accommodate Thai characters in terms of readability and layout.

Submissions will be reviewed for:

  • Creativity and originality
  • Clarity in communicating Sustainable UX principles
  • Professional visual quality
  • Subtle integration of Thai elements
  • Technical suitability for print
  • Coherent use of color, typography, and composition

1. Cover Design Files

Submit PNG or JPEG (preview), original source file (Illustrator, InDesign, Figma or other) and final print-ready PDF/X file (preferably PDF/X-4), including front cover, spine, back cover. The layout must follow all technical specifications and template zones. 

2. Concept Description (200–300 words)

This text should explain your interpretation of Sustainable User Experience, your method of integrating a subtle Thai reference, and how your visual decisions support clarity, sustainability, and usability. You may also describe your use of color, typography, and structure.

3. Contact Information

It expands classical UX principles into a life-centered approach that considers users, the environment, society, and long-term business impact. The book examines the environmental footprint of digital technologies, psychological foundations of sustainable behavior, and practical methods for research, design, and testing. It also emphasizes accessibility, ethics, and responsible company practices. Together, these perspectives form a comprehensive guide for creating digital experiences that are intentional, resource-efficient, inclusive, and future-oriented.

Monika Schirmeier is the author of the book and a freelance UX designer based in Germany. With a background in communication design, she brings a life-centered approach to her work—shaped by a strong commitment to sustainability and a deep appreciation for global cultures.

Dr. Siranee

Siranee Nuchitprasitchai, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor and Vice President of the Bangkok ACM SIGCHI Chapter, specializing in UX, HCI, and HMI. Soon to be the Thai translator of Sustainable User Experience, she pairs her computer engineering background with a user-centered, innovation-driven mindset. Her work reflects a strong commitment to sustainability, emerging technologies, digital literacy, and open-source solutions that create positive societal impact.

View Thanya is a UX/UI Designer at COPA-DATA in Austria and an HCI Researcher volunteer with SIGCHI Bangkok, driven by a passion for sustainability. She will be part of the translation team for the book Sustainable User Experience, as she wants to share the importance of sustainability in her home country, Thailand, not only in physical products but also in digital ones. Her goal is to raise awareness among designers to ensure products have a positive global impact.
